VP / Relationship Manager
Larry McDermott was born in Annapolis Maryland but grew up in the Daytona Beach area since 1954. He attended local schools, graduating from Seabreeze High School in 1969. Going on right to college, Larry graduated from Mercer University in Macon Georgia in 1973 with a BA degree. Larry went right to work at Sun Bank of Daytona Beach in 1973 in the installment loan department and later was put in charge of the newly formed Master Charge Department. Also, other duties involved buying car loans from dealers and still collecting defaulted installment loans.
Larry was assistant manager of the first branch in Volusia County for Sun Bank in 1975. Later, he opened the first branch for Sun in Port Orange Florida. In 1984 he switched from the retail branching system the Bank to become VP of commercial lending under a newly formed Corporate Banking Unit. Larry stayed with Sun until 2000. After leaving Sun Trust, Larry became VP of Peninsula Bank a newly formed community bank in Daytona Beach. The company grew and merged with Southern Community Bank and eventually was purchased by Fifth Third Bank in 2004. Larry remained with Fifth Third until 2005 as Senior Vice President and City Executive. Larry in 2006 affiliated with Floridian Bank as Senior Vice President and commercial lending officer. Larry left Floridian in 2009 and has been operating his own small business park in South Daytona since that time. Larry is affiliated with several civic organizations in the Daytona Beach area. He is chairman of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee for the city of Daytona Beach, Treasurer of the Daytona Vision Foundation, Finance Chairman for Halifax Habitat for Humanity, past president of the Mid Florida Housing Partnership and is a member of the City of Daytona Beach Economic Development Advisory Board. Larry and his wife attend First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach where Larry is an Adult Education Department Chair.
